The Tour des Yoles Rondes de Martinique

The Tour des Yoles Rondes de Martinique

For more than 30 years, the Tour des Yoles Rondes de Martinique, popular summertime event, has brought together the local population and visitors, around the passionate crews for this regatta which goes around the island.
Located nearby La Pagerie **** Tropical Garden Hotel, the beaches of Anse Mitan and Pointe du Bout are perfect spots to admire these beautiful boats during their passage in the Bay of Fort-de-France.

Much more than a sporting discipline, the yole is often perceived like a passion, transmitted from generation to generation. Supervised by the “Fédération des Yoles Rondes”, the “Tour des Yoles de Martinique” is the highlight of the season.

Initially made for fishing, the yole ronde is a sailing boat built from solid wood. Yoles are called “Yole Ronde” because they don’t have keels, ballast, or rudder like most sailing boats. Instead, the skiff crew use
paddles, wind and current to move around.
Deeply rooted in Martinique's heritage, the Yole Ronde is registered since December 2020, in the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the UNESCO.
